It has been a rough few months of braving the elements. Between Hurricane Irene in August and an abrupt snowstorm in October, there have been unpredictable power outages across Bucks County, Montgomery County and many other nearby counties. It seems these power outages are happening with more frequency and with longer lasting effects. At Millman Electric, we decided to do something to help our valuable client base in the event of an unfortunate power outage; which is why we are now an authorized dealer of Generac generators. These generators act as standby power sources that automatically kick into gear in the event of a power outage.
Winter is also on its way, and with that comes the increased risk of losing power. Keep your home or business safe and secure even in the worst of weather with standby power sources from Generac and Millman Electric. These temporary power services ensure you can keep your family or employees comfortable inside no matter what the elements may be outside. As we mentioned in our last blog, energy deregulation is coming to Pennsylvania. Well it is the new year and it has arrived. Being in the electrical field, a lot of our customers have been asking us about this. So, we researched companies to see what was what and how we could help our customers.
North American Power stood out among the rest. Backed by 2 professionals with over 25 years in the electrical business, it’s a strong corporation with excellent financial backing. More importantly, their sign on process is very simple, there are NO CONTRACTS and you SAVE MONEY!
The most attractive part of this is you can do it all from your home computer! By going to our NA Power website, all you need is your PECO or PPL account number and an email address. The current supply rate of NA Power is $.089 per kwh, while most people pay $.091 and higher per kwh based on their location and utility company. Now, by switching, this won’t cut your bill in half or anything, but if you could easily save $10-$20 a month, for free, without a contract, why not?
To sign on is free, there is no contract, there is no penalty for cancelling, and ther is no power interruption. We are always happy to answer any questions or concerns from our customers, so please email us at email@example.com. One concern to be aware of is the Residential Heatingcustomers with PECO. These homes are solely powered and heated with ALL electric. Meaning no gas or oil enters the home or operates the furnace. These customers pay standard rates for the first 600 kwh and then are hugely discounted on the rest. PECO does this because those customers rely on electricity to produce heat and their bills would be outrageous in the winter without the discount. (I’m sure they’re outrageous anyway) There are rumors this will end eventually, but as to when no one is sure. Companies like NA Power cannot touch the price of these customers because of how they are discounted.
So, as your official energy broker for NA Power, please contact Millman Electric now or visit our website and start saving!
As of January 1st, 2011, Pennsylvania will be joining the other few states who have adopted deregulation of energy. Deregulation on the supply of power simply means you, as a customer, will now have a choice as to who you want supplying the power to your house.
Most customers that we do work for have either PECO or PPL as their electrical utility company. Signing on to a different supplier will not change much. Your current utility company will still send you a bill, service your lines, and address any emergency. However, on your bill under ‘transmission and generator’ of electricity it will list the provider that you have chosen. There will be no interruption of power and nothing to do with your current outside lines, meter, or panel.
The main pro of deregulation is competition in the market and savings being passed on to you as a customer. As PECO and others start to slowly raise their rates in 2011, it couldn’t come at a better time to save a few bucks!
Millman Electric works closely with many other contractors in the area. From small additions or renovations, to brand new kitchens, baths, and bigger additions. It can be a very messy process if things are not planned well, or if one contractor drags the job or makes mistakes. Most of the time we are hired by our existing customers or because we are recommended by the general contractor.
A few jobs we have come across recently, we weren’t the 1st, or even sometimes the 2nd electrician on the job. Just because your contractor has recommended or MADE you use his electrician, doesn’t mean you have to. Sometimes it doesn’t work out so great and we are hired to ‘clean-up’ and even fix a renovation done by someone who either had no idea what they were doing, or weren’t very good at it. This means the customer has paid someone to do the job, and then paid another person to finish and fix it.
Any renovation you are having done, big or small, we can help you out with it. Estimates are always free and even if an electrician has been brought in, it couldn’t hurt.
We are in the prime of the summer with outside temperatures reaching 100 degrees at least once a week. This means your attic, usually directly above your bedrooms can get up to 150 degrees! With all that heat and hot air sitting on top of your house, the air conditioning will have to work extra hard just to maintain a decent temperature inside. If you do not have central air, well, it’s just plain HOT!
A good way to relieve this hot air is to have a roof mount, or gable attic fans installed. These attic fans pull air through and out of your attic, creating a cooler atmosphere, usually set to 90 degrees. With the attic fans working hard, the inside of your house isn’t being affected by serious heat from above, and if you have central air, it works less, taking stress off of your system and saving you some money on your energy bill.
Give us a call and we can take a look at your attic or crawl space and come up with a plan to properly relieve the hot air and heat that is building up inside there!
Another approach to this heat are ceiling fans. For large rooms or even directly over your bed, with the windows open and the ceiling fans on, a nice breeze can be created to cool you down. Ceiling fans also help out your central air system by quickly dispersing the cool air it is putting out, and cooling down the room faster.
We install any and every fan out there. We typically put them on 2 separate switches, one controlling the light kit (if applicable) and the other the motor. If you have purchased a special remote kit, we install those too. If you have a 2-story ceiling, that’s not a problem either.
So give us a call and let us help you stay cool in this hot weather!
